Ever had to wake up in the morning, look yourself in the mirror and all you see is your afro hair in a tangled mess staring right back at you?

If yes, I’ll tell you one of the reasons why – You don’t have a great nighttime routine or you have none.

If you are someone like me who has Afro textured hair, is a bit lazy and doesn’t pay proper attention to your hair at night this blog post will go a long way in helping you fix that.

Here’s a nighttime routine for moisture and length by Queeny Kuffour. Works for 4A- 4C Hair

1. Moisturise

During the course of the day especially on pretty hot days, your hair must have lost moisture and it’s only wise to replenish any moisture lost throughout the day before heading to bed. Even if you have a good routine of regularly moisturizing your hair, applying a bit of something lightweight defintely does the magic by morning.

2. Brush Your Hair Out

Before going to bed, brush your hair out with a wide-tooth comb or bristle brush. Brushing should be done appropriately from root to tip for some minutes as this helps to circulate the scalp’s natural oil through your hair and also prevents frizz and tangles by morning.

3. Braid Or Twist It Up

After moisturizing, it’s best to braid or twist your hair up. Braids and twists hold in moisture and help your hair stay soft and fairly detangled. You don’t need to do a million plaits or twists. As you moisturize your hair, you can divide it into about 4-8  medium-sized sections and twist. If you are looking to maintain a style like a twist or braid-out, you can make your nighttime twists rather loose so as not to disturb the definition too much.

4. Use A Satin Bonnet

Large satin bonnets are suitable for tucking in one’s hair completely at the end of the day.

5. Do The Pineapple Method

“Pineappling” your hair essentially means putting it all up in a loose ponytail and securing with a satin scarf.
This style helps protect your wash-and-go curls or sets (whether you’re rocking a twist-out, braid-out, or rod set) by placing everything in the center of your head.
It generally preserves your style overnight.

I'd love to see more articles on natural hair, products to use, hair styles including protective hair styles. This hair struggle is real and I'm a step away from shaving my head.
